Indian Railways has introduced non-stop goods trains for the first time across the country. The special feature of these goods trains is that the load combination of two goods trains is amalgamated to carry more freight from one major station to another. According to a Railway Board official, Railway Board chairman Vivek Sahai has taken the decision to run non-stop goods trains with their load increased from the normal 58 wagons to 116 or 80 wagons. The main objective behind it was to increase railway revenue as well as expedite transportation of freight consignments, he said.

According to ECR CPRO Dilip Kumar, the ECR has been successfully running five such goods trains from Dhanbad division on an experimental basis. Three such non-stop goods trains are originating from Barwadih and one each from Gomoh and Asansol stations. The ECR has a major share in freight loading, particularly coal loading from the Dhanbad division. The CPRO said that normally a goods train runs with a load combination of about 40 to 58 wagons. But in the amalgamated system, it is having the maximum load of about 116 wagons now. Besides, two locomotives (electric and diesel) are being used to haul such a goods train from Dhanbad division to far-off places in the country, he said.
